09 / Semele Stage Design

During a Cape Town - Shanghai Artist Residency, South African artist duo Warther Dixon, collaborated with the KT Wong Foundation and the London Royal Opera House on the design and production of 2 stage artworks for the re-imagining of Handel’s Semele Opera.

The duo spent 4 weeks in residence in a scene shop outside Shanghai, conceptualising and prototyping artworks for the stage, along with a series of artworks that were exhibited at the Shanghai Concert Hall at the opening of Semele.

The reimagining of Handel’s Opera Semele opened on the 08th and 09th November 2019 at Shanghai Concert Hall, Shanghai.
